Verses
Psalm 44:26 Rise up and help us; redeem us because of your unfailing love.
Ruth 4:14-15 “Praise be to the Lord, who this day has not left you without a kinsman-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel! He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age.”
Observations
In its entirety, this Psalm is extraordinary. Like the Psalmist, many of us have heard wonderful testimonies of prior generations. Perhaps for us, those amazing events were in our own lifetime. Yet now, something is not matching those stories. To the best of our knowledge, we have not been false to our Lord. Still, we are no longer seeing the light of His face and His blessings.
Earlier in history, Naomi had experienced not only one, but two tragic losses in her family. As a result, she and Ruth decided to relocate entirely. Even then, the next meal was a daily challenge. Through the pre-planned miracle of the process of redemption, both Ruth and Naomi entered into a completely renewed life.
Through the midst of the mess the Psalmist observed around him, he still called upon the Lord. In his call, he dared to hope again. The basis of his appeal was the unchanging nature of a love that transcends mere feelings. This is a love that reaches in to fix that which is broken; not with a hasty patch, but with a pre-planned purchase that restores the original new creation.
Prayer
Lord, help me in the midst of the mess that is surrounding me right now. Rise up and help me. Redeem me. Rescue me from the mess. Fix up the broken circumstances, for I cannot fix them myself. I know that your redemption is an expression of your love, which is unfailing. Your love endures forever. Your redemption endures forever.
